South Korea is a small but mighty country, made up of nine major provinces and multiple major cities, that sometime feel like they never end.

Even though most travelers start their trip in Seoul, each region offers something completely different and unique. There’s beaches, islands, mountains, traditional villages, historic sites, and amazing food – all waiting to be explored.

Whether you’re visiting South Korea for the first time or planning a longer trip, I highly encourage you to explore outside of Seoul for a more “off the beaten path” experience.

South Korea has a long and complex history, and even after decades of conflict like the Japanese colonization and the Korean War – Korea’s also experienced one of the fastest economic transformations in history.

Today, South Korea is known around the world for its technology, entertainment, food, culture, and even its traditional customs that have propelled the “hallyu” wave.

Gyeonggi-do is the easiest accessible region in South Korea, and surrounds the capital city of Seoul and Incheon International Airport as well as Suwon.

This area is modern with theme parks and urban spaces, but still has many traditional villages and historic sites to explore.
